Heart Check

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." ~ Matthew 6:2-4

There's a part of us that will always seek recognition for the good things we do or the accomplishments we achieve. It's just a part of our sin nature. The key is to deal with that part of ourselves and keep it in check.

Here, Jesus is saying, we need to check ourselves to make sure our motives are right and that our actions follow pure motives. Even mixed motives can be dangerous because they can drive our actions.

In all you do, make sure you make time for a heart/motive check.

God bless,

J.W.
