Continually Thankful

"Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord . . . for they give thanks to God." ~ Romans 14:6

It's the day after Thanksgiving and many of us have already returned to business as usual in our lives. For one day, we were full of hope, joy, and love. And now, it's back to the same old thing - back to spitefulness, bitterness, and drama.

But Thanksgiving isn't about just one day. God calls us to be continually thankful for the blessings He gives us (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

How we treat one another is a reflection on just how thankful we are for the blessings God has given us.

So... just how thankful are you?

God bless,

Freedom

"But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code." ~ Romans 7:6

A lot of people think that God is about rules and regulations. They think that becoming a Christian is about being told what to do and what not to do; that God is about taking fun and enjoyment away from us.

But God’s not about that stuff at all.

Jesus said He came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Moreover, He said that He came to set the captives free (Isaiah 42:6-7).

Being a Christian is not about being bound to rules and laws. It’s about being free – free from the burdens of the world, from sin, and from death.

So, celebrate your freedom today!

God bless,

It's The Real

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." ~ Hebrews 11:1

To those atheists, nihilists, and agnostics who might say "God is not real because I cannot see, hear, or touch Him," God has an answer for that. It's Hebrews 11:1. Despite many of our misconceptions, it is not God's appearance that brings us to faith, but rather it is our faith that manifests God's appearance. It is our belief in Him that makes Him real, not the other way around.

If you want to see, know, or hear God today, have faith! He will surely reveal Himself to you.

God bless,

Generational Curses

"The Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” ~ Exodus 34:6-7

Many of us, particularly in the black community, suffer because of the sins of our parents. We deal with alcoholism, drug addiction, infidelity, jealousy, mean-spiritedness, and even health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure because of the curses that have been placed upon our families.

If you're dealing with a problem that has been passed down to you from a dysfunctional family, please don't give up hope. God is faithful to turn things around for not only you, but your family as well.

While there are strongholds in our lives, God has the power to overcome them. 2 Corinthians 10:4 reads "the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."

If you go to God today, he can release you from those generational curses. Just surrender your life to Him and He will grant you an entirely new life in place of the old.

God bless,
J.W.

Listen for God's Voice

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” ~ Isaiah 30:21

So many voices encroach our spirits on a day-to-day basis that it often becomes hard to tell which one is God’s and which one is someone else’s. Here are three ways to discern:

1. God’s voice is not loud. Worldly voices yell and scream, but God doesn’t have to. He speaks softly and carries a big stick. In order to hear God’s voice, surround yourself with peace.

2. God’s voice reassures. Worldly voices confuse and bewilder, but God’s voice gives direction. If you hear something that doesn’t confirm or clarify, it’s probably not God.

3. God’s voice is always the same. No matter what situation you find yourself in, God is always there with you, fighting your battles and experiencing your pain. He never changes and will be with you no matter what you go through.

So listen for God’s voice today!

God bless,
J.W.
